Volvo Trucks unveils all-new VNX heavy-duty truck with 540-hp D13 engine and Remote Steer
The Volvo Trucks division has premiered the all-new Volvo VNX heavy-duty truck. The vehicle has been engineered from the ground up specifically to operate in the harshest conditions in North America. For the North American market, this is the Swedish brand's third new truck in less than three years, following the debut of the VNL in 2024 and the VNR in 2025.
The primary applications for the new Volvo VNX will be construction, logging, agriculture, and heavy-haul transport. According to Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America, the new model is the most durable, safest, and toughest vocational truck in the company's history. At the core of its construction is a frame made of high-strength heat-treated steel. As standard, the vehicle is rated for gross combination weights of up to 73 metric tons, and with manufacturer approval, the permissible weight can be increased to 91 metric tons.
Under the hood of all Volvo VNX variants is the Volvo D13 powertrain, which delivers a maximum output of up to 540 horsepower and 2,600 Nm of torque. To facilitate precise maneuvering in tight spaces, the truck is equipped with a new Remote Steer system. This feature allows the vehicle to be controlled from the outside at speeds of up to 5 mph (around 8 km/h), which is particularly convenient when operating concrete mixers, crane trucks, and vacuum rigs.
Customers will be offered the new Volvo VNX in three cab configurations: a short day cab, a compact sleeper cab, and a large sleeper module measuring around 160 centimeters in length. The first two variants will be available as both a tractor and a rigid chassis for custom bodywork, while the version with the largest sleeper is offered exclusively in a tractor configuration.
