Volvo’s XC60 Is Reportedly Set for a Substantial Refresh
Volvo’s XC60 has been on the market for years, and while it received a light update for 2026, a much deeper revision is said to be coming soon.
According to a report from Automotive News, the automaker is preparing a significant change for the XC60 plug-in hybrid, including a larger battery and some styling revisions. Sources familiar with the plan say the upgraded battery could raise the SUV’s electric-only range from about 35 miles to as much as double or even triple that figure.
If that estimate proves accurate, the XC60 would move ahead of rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e, which offers 54 miles of EV range. In the most optimistic scenario, Volvo’s SUV could approach 100 miles on battery power alone. At present, the XC60 PHEV uses an 18.8-kWh lithium-ion battery.
It remains uncertain whether Volvo will alter the rest of the powertrain lineup. The current T8 setup combines a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, producing 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. That configuration allows the SUV to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
The update is also expected to bring a freshened exterior, likely including revised headlights and a new grille. With those changes and the larger battery, pricing may climb above the current 2026 XC60 PHEV starting price of $62,545. The redesigned model is expected to arrive in early 2027.
Even with the recent 2026 touch-up, the XC60 is aging compared with newer competitors. Still, a meaningful boost in electric range would make the plug-in hybrid version far more appealing to buyers who want a mix of premium comfort and better efficiency.
