Second generation of the Volkswagen Polo Vivo hatchback for South Africa based on the Polo Mk5, in production since 2018.
The second-generation Volkswagen Polo Vivo premiered in South Africa in February 2018. Built on the modernized PQ25 architecture, the model is based on the fifth-generation European Polo hatchback (Typ 6R/6C). Manufactured exclusively as a 5-door hatchback at the Kariega assembly plant in South Africa, the second-gen Vivo introduced updated styling, enhanced acoustic insulation, a reinforced safety cell with standard ABS and ESP, and modern touch-screen infotainment with Bluetooth integration.
The engine line features naturally aspirated 1.4-liter (75 hp and 85 hp) and 1.6-liter (105 hp) MPI petrol engines, while the range-topping Polo Vivo GT receives a 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder turbo engine outputting 110 hp. Gearbox selections comprise 5-speed and 6-speed manuals alongside a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic. A facelift in 2024 refreshed the front bumper and grille aesthetics while introducing updated cabin trim, allowing the Polo Vivo to maintain its position as South Africa's top-selling vehicle.
