The Volkswagen Jetta VI (Typ 16) premiered at Times Square in New York in June 2010. For the first time, it shared no exterior body stampings with the Golf, featuring a clean sedan silhouette designed under Walter de Silva with a wheelbase extended by 73 mm. Produced strictly as a four-door sedan, it catered to global markets.

Engine selections featured 1.6/2.0 MPI petrols, a North American 2.5 five-cylinder, 1.2/1.4/2.0 TSI turbo units up to 210 hp (GLI trim), 1.6/2.0 TDI diesels, and the Jetta Hybrid. A 2014 facelift updated aerodynamics, headlights, and safety features.
