Vauxhall Astra VI (J) gallery (2009–2015)

Revealed in late 2009, the sixth-generation Vauxhall Astra (Mark 6 / Astra J) was built upon General Motors' robust Delta II platform, adopting the sculptural styling philosophy introduced by the larger Insignia. A standout engineering feature was the rear suspension, which combined a torsion beam with a bespoke Watt's linkage to enhance lateral grip without compromising ride quality, while the three-door GTC coupe received HiPerStrut front suspension. Body styles encompassed a five-door hatchback, the Sports Tourer estate, the sleek three-door GTC coupe, a four-door saloon, and the related Cascada convertible. The petrol range included naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.4 and 1.6-litre Ecotec units, culminating in the 280 PS 2.0-litre turbocharged Astra VXR equipped with a Drexler mechanical limited-slip differential. Turbo-diesel choices spanned 1.3, 1.7, 2.0 CDTi, a twin-turbo 2.0 BiTurbo CDTi producing 195 PS, and the ultra-refined 1.6 CDTi Whisper Diesel. Gearboxes were 5- and 6-speed manuals alongside a 6-speed automatic. A mid-cycle refresh in 2012 refined the front fascia, bumper contours, and cabin infotainment systems. Manufactured at Ellesmere Port, the Mk6 offered substantial cabin refinement and long-distance touring comfort.
