Vauxhall Astra V (H) gallery (2004–2009)

Arriving in 2004 on GM's Delta I architecture, the fifth-generation Vauxhall Astra (Mark 5 / Astra H) brought striking, angular styling and sophisticated technological innovations to the compact family segment. The model portfolio comprised a five-door hatchback, the distinctive three-door Sport Hatch with an aggressively tapered roofline, an estate, a four-door saloon, the Astravan, and the Astra TwinTop featuring a three-piece retractable steel roof. Notable technical options included the IDS Plus adaptive damping system, Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL), and an expansive panoramic windscreen extending into the roof on Sport Hatch models. Petrol powertrains utilized Twinport variable intake technology across 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8-litre units, supplemented by a 2.0-litre Turbo, which peaked at 240 bhp in the flagship Astra VXR hot hatch. The diesel lineup featured advanced 1.3 CDTi, 1.7 CDTi, and 1.9 CDTi Common Rail turbo-diesels developed jointly with Fiat. Transmissions included 5- and 6-speed manuals, a 4-speed automatic, and the Easytronic automated manual. A subtle facelift in late 2006 introduced revised grille trim, refreshed lights, and updated Euro 4/5 engines. Manufactured at Ellesmere Port, it was one of the best-selling vehicles in the UK throughout the decade.
