The second generation Toyota Vitz hatchback (XP90 series) launched in Japan in February 2005. Constructed on Toyota's updated B platform, the vehicle expanded substantially, adding 110 mm in overall length and extending its wheelbase to 2,460 mm. The exterior adopted smooth, organic body surfaces featuring an integrated front bumper nose cone and prominent headlights. Inside, the cabin advanced in passenger comfort with superior legroom, slide-adjustable split-folding rear seats, and an updated central digital instrument cluster.
Powertrain options encompassed a 1.0-liter 1KR-FE three-cylinder engine (71 hp), a 1.3-liter 2SZ-FE / 2NR-FE four-cylinder (87 hp), and a 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE (110 hp). Front-wheel-drive models transitioned to a Super CVT-i continuously variable transmission, while four-wheel-drive (4WD) variants utilized a four-speed automatic. The sports Vitz RS trim offered a five-speed manual shifter and rear disc brakes. A 2007 facelift updated the front grille texture, headlight reflectors, and taillight graphics.
