The third generation Toyota Vitz hatchback (XP130 series) launched in Japan in December 2010, abandoning previous bio-design styling in favor of Toyota's sharp Keen Look aesthetic. The exterior featured a trapezoidal lower grille, angled headlight lenses, and sculpted side character lines. Built on an extended 2,510 mm wheelbase, high-tensile steel construction reduced overall curb weight by 30 kg. The interior returned the driver instrument cluster to a conventional position behind the steering wheel, introducing soft-touch materials, a T-Connect touchscreen, and a single front windshield wiper system.

Engines included a 1.0-liter 1KR-FE (69 hp), a high-expansion-ratio 1.3-liter 1NR-FKE (99 hp), and a 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE (109 hp). In 2017, the Vitz Hybrid arrived featuring Toyota Hybrid System II (1.5-liter 1NZ-FXE combined with an electric motor for 100 total horsepower). Most models paired with Super CVT-i transmissions, while sport RS and GR Sport trims offered five- or six-speed manual gearboxes. Facelifts in 2014 and 2017 integrated Toyota Safety Sense C. In 2020, the historic Vitz badge was retired as Japan aligned with the global Yaris moniker.
