About this generation

First generation Toyota Venza mid-size crossover built on the Camry platform, blending the traits of a sedan, station wagon, and urban SUV.

The first generation Toyota Venza debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2008. Built on Toyota's K chassis platform (shared with the Camry XV40 and Highlander XU40), the vehicle was engineered to bridge the gap between traditional station wagons and mid-size crossovers, offering a high ground clearance of 205 mm alongside an accessible step-in height. Exterior styling was marked by a wide, athletic stance, a bold chrome front grille, and standard 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels. The spacious five-passenger interior featured a flat rear floor, an optional dual-pane panoramic glass roof, and power-adjustable seating.

Under the hood, buyers could choose between two naturally aspirated gasoline engines: a 2.7-liter 1AR-FE inline-four generating 182 horsepower or a 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 producing 268 horsepower. Both powertrains were paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Venza was offered in both front-wheel drive and Active Torque Control all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. A mid-cycle facelift in 2012 introduced a restyled front bumper, updated grille aesthetics, new wheel designs, and the integration of Toyota's Entune infotainment software.
