Toyota Starlet III (P70) gallery (1984–1989)

The third generation Toyota Starlet hatchback (P70 series) debuted in October 1984, marking a crucial mechanical evolution by transitioning from RWD to a front-wheel-drive layout with a transversely mounted engine. Offered in three- and five-door hatchback body styles, the exterior featured a raked front hood, flush window glazing, and rounded body corners. The upgraded interior accommodated sport bucket seats with reinforced bolsters, digital clock displays, and integrated audio electronics.

The benchmark model arrived in 1986 with the introduction of the Starlet Turbo S (EP71), powered by a 1.3-liter 12-valve 2E-TEL turbocharged engine generating up to 110 horsepower with a driver-selectable dual-mode (Low/High) boost switch. Standard engines included 1.0-liter 1E (54 hp) and 1.3-liter 2E (75 hp) gasoline units, alongside the line's first 1.5-liter 1N diesel (55 hp). Transmissions were four- or five-speed manuals and a three-speed automatic. A 1987 facelift revised front grille detailing and taillight optics.
