The SUV is engineered on an extensively modified version of the modular TNGA-K architecture, specifically optimized to house high-capacity floor-mounted battery packs and compact electric drive units. It shares its fundamental mechanical structure, electronic backbone, and assembly footprint with upcoming collaborative models, including the Lexus TZ and Subaru Getaway.

Offered strictly in a versatile five-door SUV bodystyle, the new Highlander retains its hallmark three-row seating layout, accommodating up to eight passengers while optimizing aerodynamic efficiency. In comparison to the preceding fourth generation (XU70), the exterior trades traditional front radiator vents for a sleek closed-off fascia, complemented by a stretched wheelbase that maximizes second- and third-row legroom and cargo capacity.
