Toyota Highlander IV (XU70) gallery (2019–present)
The fourth-generation Highlander moved to the global TNGA-K platform, featuring bold styling and a highly efficient hybrid variant.
Introduced in April 2019, the fourth-generation Highlander (XU70) is built on the new TNGA-K architecture. The exterior design became more sculpted and sporty, with pronounced wheel arches. The new platform provided increased structural rigidity, improved sound insulation, and sharper handling. Initially, the 3.5-liter V6 (295 hp) carried over as the standard engine, but the hybrid version saw a radical shift: the V6 was replaced by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Although total output dropped to 243 hp, the system's efficiency skyrocketed, delivering an impressive 36 mpg combined fuel economy.
The interior was upgraded with a modern infotainment system featuring an available 12.3-inch touchscreen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the 2023 model year, Toyota replaced the V6 engine with a new 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 265 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, improving emissions and fuel efficiency. The broader Highlander family also expanded with the introduction of the Grand Highlander (marketed as a separate model), designed to address the standard model's cramped third-row seating.
