Unveiled in November 2012, the fourth-generation Forester (SJ code) focused on improved interior space, stiffer chassis mounts, and aerodynamic efficiency. Transmissions shifted to Subaru's Lineartronic CVT alongside manual options, incorporating the X-Mode off-road terrain management program. Engines included 2.0L FB20 (150 hp) and 2.5L FB25 (171 hp) flat-fours, the 2.0L EE20 diesel, and the performance FA20DIT 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo flat-four (240–280 hp) powering XT models.
