Subaru Forester IV (SJ) gallery (2012–2018)

Unveiled in November 2012, the fourth-generation Forester (SJ code) focused on improved interior space, stiffer chassis mounts, and aerodynamic efficiency. Transmissions shifted to Subaru's Lineartronic CVT alongside manual options, incorporating the X-Mode off-road terrain management program. Engines included 2.0L FB20 (150 hp) and 2.5L FB25 (171 hp) flat-fours, the 2.0L EE20 diesel, and the performance FA20DIT 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo flat-four (240–280 hp) powering XT models. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.

A 2015 facelift introduced adaptive LED headlights, revised front bumper styling, upgraded cabin soundproofing, and updated EyeSight driver-assistance technology. Fourth-generation Forester production ran through 2018. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort.
