Pontiac Lemans VI gallery (1988–1993)

The sixth generation Pontiac LeMans was a compact car based on the Opel Kadett E, manufactured in South Korea.

The sixth-generation Pontiac LeMans, produced from 1988 to 1993, differed radically from all previous cars in this series, transforming from a traditional American mid-size car into a compact front-wheel-drive hatchback and sedan. The model was developed by GM as a badge-engineered version of the European Opel Kadett E, manufactured by Daewoo Motors in South Korea. The body style lineup included 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks, as well as a 4-door sedan. The car was equipped with modest 1.5-liter and 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines paired with 4-speed or 5-speed manual transmissions or a 3-speed automatic. Changes compared to the previous generation were revolutionary, abandoning rear-wheel drive and large V8 engines in favor of a lightweight global platform. A minor facelift in 1991 updated the exterior trim and interior elements, alongside the introduction of the sporty GSE trim. The main markets were North America and New Zealand, where the car served as an entry-level budget offering until it was discontinued in 1993 due to low sales.
