The fifth generation Pontiac Grand Am was produced from 1999 to 2005 and became the final evolution of this popular model on the GM N-body platform. Buyers were still offered a sedan and a coupe, equipped with 2.2-liter and 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines, as well as 3.4-liter V6 engines with a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. The car received smoother body lines, a redesigned dashboard, and expanded GT trim levels with an upgraded suspension. In 2005, the sedan was discontinued, and the coupe was assembled in limited series mainly for fleet use until the model finally gave way to the new Pontiac G6 sedan. The main markets remained the North American countries.
