The second generation Pontiac Grand Am was produced from 1978 to 1980 on a downsized platform and returned to the brand's lineup.
The second generation Pontiac Grand Am was produced from 1978 to 1980 on General Motors' updated intermediate platform. The vehicle retained sedan and coupe body styles, but became more compact and lighter than its predecessor, receiving economical 3.8-liter V6 engines, as well as 4.3-liter and 4.9-liter V8 engines with automatic and manual transmissions. The car featured a revised front-end design with a sloped grille and improved cabin ergonomics. Despite attempts to adapt the model to new fuel standards, demand remained low, leading to another discontinuation of the Grand Am lineup in 1980. The primary market remained the North American region.
