Debuting in 2010, the K13 generation of the Nissan Micra redefined the nameplate's mission by transitioning from a primarily Euro-Japanese city car into a global world car sold in over 150 countries. It served as the launch vehicle for Nissan's new lightweight V-platform, which reduced curb weight compared to the outgoing K12 while optimizing interior packaging and aerodynamic efficiency through a distinctive boomerang-shaped roof contour. Unlike its predecessor, which offered three-door and convertible variants, the K13 was produced exclusively as a practical five-door hatchback with more conventional, universally appealing styling. Under the hood, Nissan replaced the previous four-cylinder engines in most markets with a new 1.2-liter HR12 three-cylinder petrol engine family, available both as a naturally aspirated HR12DE unit and as an advanced Miller-cycle direct-injection supercharged version (HR12DDR, badged DIG-S) delivering exceptionally low emissions and fuel consumption; certain regional markets also received 1.5-liter petrol or diesel engines and a 1.6-liter unit in North America. Transmission options included a five-speed manual, a subcompact-oriented Xtronic CVT with an auxiliary gearbox, and a four-speed automatic in select regions. A major 2013 facelift gave the K13 a bolder front fascia featuring Nissan's corporate V-motion grille, reshaped headlights, LED taillights, and an upgraded dashboard with touchscreen infotainment. With production relocated from the UK to facilities in India, Thailand, Mexico, and China, the K13 served Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Canada.
