The second-generation Nissan March (codenamed K11), produced mainly between 1992 and 2002, represented a comprehensive technological and stylistic leap over the outgoing K10 series. Built on an all-new platform with refined suspension geometry and an available four-wheel-drive system for the Japanese domestic market, the K11 traded its predecessor's angular lines for a curvaceous, upright silhouette that maximized interior headroom and visibility. Beyond the core three-door and five-door hatchback body styles, the K11 range in Japan expanded to include a factory two-door convertible, the extended-rear-overhang March Box station wagon, and numerous neo-classic retro editions such as the Bolero. Under the hood, the older SOHC engines were replaced by Nissan's newly developed all-aluminum CG-series 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder petrol engines—initially in 1.0-liter (CG10DE) and 1.3-liter (CG13DE) capacities, with a 1.4-liter (CGA3DE) added later—while European markets also received a 1.5-liter diesel sourced from PSA. Transmission options featured a five-speed manual, a conventional four-speed automatic, and an innovative continuously variable transmission (N-CVT, later upgraded to Hyper CVT). Throughout its decade in production, the K11 underwent multiple facelifts—most notably in 1997 and 2000—updating the grille, lighting, interior ergonomics, and safety equipment such as airbags and ABS. Marketed as the March in Japan and parts of Asia and as the Micra in Europe and Oceania, it achieved critical acclaim by winning the 1993 European Car of the Year title.
