The second-generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class, internal designation W246, premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011 as the inaugural model constructed on the Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform. Abandoning the previous sandwich floor design enabled a lower center of gravity, reduced overall vehicle height by 46 millimeters, and significantly enhanced driving dynamics while achieving an impressive aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.26. Interior versatility remained a core hallmark thanks to the optional EASY-VARIO-PLUS package, allowing fore-aft sliding rear seats and adjustable backrest inclination to balance legroom with cargo space.

Powertrain choices comprised 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engines (M270), alongside 1.5-liter, 1.8-liter, and 2.1-liter OM651 turbo-diesel units. Power was delivered through a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (7G-DCT), with 4MATIC variable all-wheel drive available on higher-spec trims. The generation also debuted alternative drive systems, including the all-electric B-Class Electric Drive (W242) featuring a 179 hp electric motor and a Natural Gas Drive (NGT) variant. A late 2014 facelift updated front styling, introduced High Performance LED headlights, and modernized cabin displays.
