2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC53 Clocks 4.1-Second 0–60 MPH Time in First Track Test
After discontinuing the four-cylinder GLC43 and the GLC63 E Performance plug-in hybrid due to lukewarm buyer reception, Mercedes-AMG has introduced the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC53 4Matic+. The compact performance SUV replaces those models with a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine paired with a mild-hybrid system (featuring a 23-hp, 151-lb-ft permanent-magnet motor and a 0.8-kWh NMC lithium-ion battery). Total output stands at 443 hp at 5,500 rpm and 472 lb-ft of torque at 2,200 rpm, routed through a nine-speed automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive. A standard exhaust with resonators enhances the engine note across Sport, Sport+, and available Race modes.
In performance testing, the 4,661-lb GLC53 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 12.7 seconds at 107.2 mph. That makes it quicker than the previous GLC43 (4.6 seconds to 60 mph; 13.1 seconds at 106.5 mph in the quarter mile) and the 362-hp Audi SQ5 (4.8 seconds to 60 mph; 13.4 seconds at 102.8 mph), though slightly behind the 393-hp BMW X3 M50 xDrive (4.0 seconds to 60 mph; 12.6 seconds at 109.7 mph) and the discontinued 671-hp GLC63 E Performance (3.1 seconds to 60 mph; 11.5 seconds at 120.5 mph).
On the figure-eight course, the GLC53 recorded a 24.8-second lap at an average of 0.80 g (and 0.96 g lateral acceleration on the skidpad), outperforming both the BMW X3 M50 (25.3 seconds, 0.76 g) and Audi SQ5 (25.7 seconds, 0.73 g), while trailing the GLC43 (24.7 seconds) and GLC63 E Performance (23.7 seconds). Braking from 60 to 0 mph took 104 feet, beating the 111-foot stops of its Audi and BMW rivals. Handling is aided by standard 2.5-degree rear-axle steering, adaptive AMG Ride Control suspension, and 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires (265/40ZR21 front, 295/35ZR21 rear). While the ride can feel stiff over rough pavement and the nine-speed gearbox occasionally holds gears too long in city driving between 35 and 45 mph, individual drive mode customization allows pairing Comfort damping with sportier powertrain settings.
Fuel economy is EPA-rated at 20/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined with a 361-mile range, improving upon both the GLC43 (19/25/21 mpg) and GLC63 S E Performance (19/21/20 mpg). Inside, the cabin features an angled 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment display, a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Nappa leather seating, AMG steering wheel control pods, and an available 15-speaker Burmester audio system in the Pinnacle trim.
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC53 starts at $71,350, sitting above the base prices of the 2026 BMW X3 M50 xDrive ($67,850) and Audi SQ5 ($66,795). With options including the $2,000 AMG Dynamic Plus package—which adds magnetorheological dynamic engine mounts, an electronic rear limited-slip differential, red brake calipers, and Race and Drift modes—the tested Verde Silver vehicle totaled $86,490 ($86,940 in the spec sheet).
