Maserati Ghibli II (AM336) gallery (1992–1998)
A revived sports coupe from the Biturbo lineage featuring aggressive styling by Marcello Gandini and twin-turbocharged V6 engines.
The second iteration of the Maserati Ghibli, coded AM336, revived the storied moniker as a high-performance two-door luxury coupe. Built upon an evolved iteration of the Biturbo architecture, the chassis featured a unibody construction, McPherson front struts, an independent rear suspension setup, and a Ranger limited-slip differential. Styled by Marcello Gandini, the car was defined by its wedge profile, flared wheel arches, and tall rear deck. Under the hood, power was delivered exclusively by twin-turbocharged 24-valve aluminum V6 engines. Italian domestic market examples utilized a 2.0-liter displacement generating 306 hp to evade local engine taxation brackets, while export markets received a 2.8-liter unit producing 284 hp. Transmission options comprised five-speed or six-speed Getrag manual gearboxes as well as a four-speed automatic. In 1996, the Ghibli GT revision introduced suspension improvements from the Shamal, alongside the race-inspired Ghibli Cup lightweight edition, selling across Europe and Japan.
