Maserati Ghibli I (AM115) gallery (1967–1973)

The first-generation Maserati Ghibli, internally designated Tipo AM115, debuted as a grand touring sports car with styling penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Ghia. Offered initially as a fastback coupe and later as a convertible Spyder, the vehicle utilized a tubular steel chassis paired with independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung live rear axle. Power came from a dry-sump 4.7-liter all-aluminum naturally aspirated V8 producing 310 hp, breathing through four twin-choke Weber carburetors. In 1969, Maserati introduced the upgraded Ghibli SS, boasting an enlarged 4.9-liter displacement with output rising to 335 hp and a top speed reaching 280 km/h. Drivetrains included a standard ZF five-speed manual transmission alongside an optional three-speed BorgWarner automatic gearbox. With disc brakes on all four corners and an iconic low-slung front profile, the AM115 proved to be a notable commercial success across Europe and North America, outselling period rivals from Ferrari and Lamborghini while cementing Maserati's GT credentials.
