About this generation

The fourth generation of the Kia Rio featuring the X-Line cross-hatchback, modern infotainment, and Smartstream Kappa engines. The model combines proven engineering reliability, refined.

The fourth-generation Kia Rio (global code YB; CIS/China code FB) premiered at the Paris Motor Show in late 2016. Built on the GB platform, its wheelbase stretched to 2,580 mm, with the 5-door hatchback spanning 4,065 mm and the sedan extending to 4,385 mm. In CIS markets, the rugged Rio X-Line (later Rio X) cross-hatchback gained widespread acclaim for its 195 mm ground clearance and protective body armor. This generation of the Rio (YB) was produced from 2016 to 2023 and offered in седан, хэтчбек body styles. Built on an engineered platform, it features strong structural rigidity, refined aerodynamics, and advanced occupant safety engineering.

Engine choices included a 1.0-liter T-GDI 3-cylinder turbo (100-120 hp), 1.2L, 1.4L, and 1.6L naturally aspirated petrol engines, and a 1.4L CRDi diesel. A 2020 facelift added redesigned LED headlights, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and an optional 48V MHEV mild-hybrid system. The powertrain lineup features modern engines optimized for thermal efficiency, balancing responsive acceleration with economical fuel consumption. Power is delivered through reliable manual or automatic transmissions. Mid-cycle updates introduced modernized LED lighting graphics, premium cabin materials, and enhanced active driver assistance suites.
