The first generation Isuzu Forward was introduced in April 1970 under the TR chassis code, marking a major milestone in the brand's commercial vehicle lineup. The truck was equipped with reliable D500 inline-six diesel engines, which were uprated in 1971. In 1972, the family underwent a facelift adopting the SBR designation and introducing the new efficient 5.4-liter 6BB1 diesel engine. The vehicle was produced as a chassis cab for various body configurations and flatbed trucks, offering class-leading fuel economy and load capacity for its time. The primary market was Japan, alongside other Asia-Pacific countries.
