The third generation Isuzu Forward was launched in June 1985, characterized by a distinct four-headlight corner cabin design inherited from the heavy-duty 810 series. It was the first truck to win Japan's Good Design Award. The trucks were equipped with naturally aspirated and turbocharged 6BG1 and 6HE1 intercooled diesel engines producing up to 250 horsepower, paired with manual transmissions or the proprietary NAVi6 automatic gearbox. During production, the model received ABS options and an expanded gross vehicle weight lineup. The primary target market remained Japan, along with Asian export markets.
