The second-generation Hyundai Verna (MC platform) debuted in 2005. Built on shared architecture with the Kia Rio JB, the MC generation emphasized interior packaging efficiency with a taller roof profile and extended wheelbase. Body options included a 4-door sedan and a 3-door hatchback.

Engine selections featured 1.4-liter Alpha II (97 hp) and 1.6-liter CVVT four-cylinder petrol engines, complemented by a 1.5-liter VGT CRDi turbodiesel (110 hp). Transmissions were 5-speed manuals and 4-speed automatics.
