The first-generation Hyundai Tucson (JM chassis) debuted at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. Sharing platform architecture with the Elantra XD and Kia Sportage II, the Tucson provided a 195 mm ground clearance and an available BorgWarner electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system with a 50/50 lock mode.
Engine options included a 2.0-liter Beta II four-cylinder (141 hp), a 2.7-liter Delta V6 (175 hp), and a 2.0-liter CRDi turbodiesel (112-150 hp). Transmissions featured five-speed manual and four-speed automatic gearboxes. Utility was highlighted by a fold-flat passenger front seat and independently opening rear hatch glass.
