The I (X1) generation of the Hyundai Excel was manufactured between 1985 and 1989. The Hyundai Excel (X1 platform) debuted in 1985 as Hyundai's first front-wheel-drive passenger vehicle.
Designed by Italdesign, it was available in sedan and 3/5-door hatchback body styles with 1.3L and 1.5L engines, achieving landmark export success in North America. Throughout its production run, the I (X1) established a strong reputation for powertrain efficiency, passenger comfort, and structural reliability.
