Holden Barina III (SB) gallery (1994–2001)

The third-generation Holden Barina, bearing the SB model code, was produced from 1994 to 2001 and represented a major philosophical shift by transitioning from Suzuki mechanicals to the European Opel Corsa B architecture. Sourced directly from GM manufacturing facilities in Spain and Germany, the SB was offered in three-door and five-door hatchback styles, as well as an exclusive Bertone-built convertible. The powertrain portfolio consisted of Opel Family 1 four-cylinder petrol engines: a 1.2-liter, a 1.4-liter eight-valve unit, and a lively 1.6-liter 16-valve Ecotec producing 106 horsepower for the range-topping GSi performance hatchback. Gearbox options included a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic. A mid-cycle refresh in 1997 brought restyled body-colored fascias, an updated interior, Australian-tuned suspension dampers, and standard dual front airbags, cementing the European-designed SB as an immense sales hit in Australasia.
