GMC TopKick II (GMT530) gallery (1990–2002)
Second generation medium-duty trucks based on the specialized GMT530 architecture.
Introduced for the 1990 model year, the second-generation GMC TopKick was built on the dedicated GMT530 medium-duty truck platform. It integrated the cab structure from the GMT400 full-size pickup family paired with a severe-duty frame and an aerodynamic sloping fiberglass hood that dramatically improved forward visibility. Configurations included standard single cabs, four-door crew cabs, and bare chassis cabs suited for box bodies, wreckers, and bus conversions. Engine options featured 6.0-liter and 7.0-liter gasoline V8s (later replaced by 7.4L and 8.1L Vortec engines), Caterpillar 3116 and 3126 turbocharged diesel engines, and alternative fuel options running on CNG or LPG. Gearbox selections encompassed Eaton Fuller manual transmissions and heavy-duty Allison automatic units. In 1997, the TopKick received an updated interior and redesigned dashboard layout. The model was manufactured and marketed throughout North America until 2002.
