GMC Jimmy II photos

The second generation of the full-size GMC Jimmy arrived in 1973, riding on the newly designed GM Rounded Line C/K truck platform (later designated the V/R series starting in 1987). It offered a longer wheelbase of 106.5 inches and improved interior volume. Through the 1975 model year, the truck retained a fully removable roof, but beginning in 1976, GM adopted a half-cab configuration where only the fiberglass roof over the rear passenger and cargo area was removable for improved structural rigidity and roll-over protection. Over its long production lifecycle, the Jimmy received multiple facelifts, interior redesigns, and front-end styling updates including stacked rectangular headlights. Powertrain offerings were diverse, comprising 4.1L and 4.8L inline-sixes, 5.0L, 5.7L, and 6.6L Small-Block V8 engines, and starting in 1982, an efficient 6.2L Detroit Diesel V8. Throttle-body fuel injection (TBI) was introduced in 1987. Gearbox options evolved from 3-speed automatics and 4-speed heavy manuals to the 4-speed 700R4 overdrive automatic. In 1992, the full-size Jimmy was officially succeeded by the all-new GMC Yukon.
