The sixth-generation Buick Regal adopted the E2XX platform with liftback, wagon, and sedan variants, remaining in active production in China.
The sixth-generation Buick Regal debuted in 2017 riding on General Motors' lightweight E2XX modular architecture, shedding approximately 200 pounds while increasing interior dimensions. For the North American market, Buick innovated by offering the model as a sleek five-door liftback dubbed Regal Sportback and a rugged all-wheel-drive wagon called Regal TourX. In China, where the sedan segment remained dominant, it continued as a traditional four-door notchback sedan. The global powertrain family comprised 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder units, a 2.0L turbocharged engine rated up to 260 hp, an exclusive 310-hp 3.6L LGX V6 for the North American Regal GS, alongside hybrid (30H) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants in China. Power is managed primarily through GM 9-speed automatic transmissions (9T50/9T60) with available intelligent twin-clutch AWD. While North American sales ended in 2020, Chinese production continued strongly, receiving comprehensive facelifts in 2020 and 2023 showcasing Buick's Pure Design aesthetic with a bold trapezoidal grille.
