Buick GL8 III gallery (2016–2022)

The third-generation Buick GL8 built on an all-new platform featuring independent rear suspension, turbo engines, and luxury Avenir trims.

The third-generation Buick GL8 debuted in late 2016, introducing a complete architectural redesign under the GL8 ES, GL8 Land Business Class, and ultra-luxurious GL8 Avenir nameplates. Moving away from legacy underpinnings, it adopted a completely modern vehicle platform featuring an independent multi-link rear suspension that substantially enhanced ride quality, acoustic comfort, and dynamic stability. The body structure utilized extensive high-strength steel to increase torsional rigidity while reducing weight. At launch, the powertrain consisted of a 2.0-liter turbocharged Ecotec LTG inline-four engine producing 260 horsepower paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In 2020, a significant mechanical and visual facelift introduced the updated 2.0-liter LSY turbocharged engine with cylinder deactivation, a 48V mild-hybrid system, and a modern nine-speed automatic transmission (Hydra-Matic 9T65). The interior underwent a technological revolution, featuring dual connected high-resolution screens and bespoke four-, six-, or seven-passenger seating layouts in the flagship Avenir lineup. Tailored exclusively for the Chinese market, it remains in active production.
