Buick GL8 I gallery (1999–2010)

The first-generation Buick GL8 debuted in late 1999 as the flagship executive people-mover produced by the SAIC-GM joint venture specifically for the Chinese automotive market. Engineered on General Motors' front-wheel-drive U-body platform, the vehicle shared its core structural architecture with North American minivans such as the Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Montana, and Oldsmobile Silhouette. Offered exclusively in a practical five-door minivan body style, it featured dual sliding rear doors and three rows of seating configured for seven or eight passengers. The powertrain lineup originally featured naturally aspirated gasoline V6 engines, including a 2.5-liter LB8 and a 3.0-liter LW9, which were later complemented by a 2.4-liter LE5 inline-four cylinder engine. Power was routed to the front wheels through a heavy-duty four-speed Hydra-Matic 4T65-E automatic transmission. In 2005, the model underwent a comprehensive mid-cycle refresh and was marketed as the GL8 Firstland, gaining a restyled front fascia, revised headlamps, modern bumpers, and upgraded acoustic insulation. The first-generation minivan remained in continuous production as a value-oriented fleet choice until 2016.
