About this generation

The iconic pioneer of the Sports Activity Coupe niche that introduced Dynamic Performance Control torque vectoring.

Unveiled in 2008, the E71 X6 revolutionized the luxury automotive landscape by inaugurating the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) concept. By fusing the command seating position and rugged lower stance of the E70 X5 with a sweeping coupe roofline, the X6 forged an unmistakable, aggressive visual identity. The E72 ActiveHybrid variant was simultaneously developed as an early showcase of high-output dual-mode hybrid engineering combined with V8 firepower.

The E71 debuted BMW's innovative Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) system, an active rear differential capable of vectoring torque between individual rear wheels to drastically reduce understeer. Engine choices included twin-turbocharged inline-sixes and the twin-turbo 4.4-liter N63 V8. The release of the high-performance X6 M boasting 555 horsepower redefined physics for heavy performance SUVs, cementing its legendary status worldwide for years.
