BMW Starts Production of Eighth-Generation 3 Series in Dingolfing
The BMW Group has announced the start of series production of the eighth-generation BMW 3 Series sedan. The new model is rolling off the assembly line at the Dingolfing plant, where it is produced on the same line as the 4 Series and 5 Series models. The Dingolfing facility is one of the Bavarian brand's key production sites: in 2025, approximately 279.5 thousand vehicles were assembled there.
The launch of production marks an important milestone in the family's history: production of versions with traditional internal combustion engines has been completely transferred from Munich to Dingolfing for the first time. Although the plant had occasionally assembled the 3 Series starting in the 1980s, over the past two decades the sedans were manufactured exclusively in Munich. Now, production of gasoline variants has been established at Dingolfing, including mild-hybrid versions, plug-in hybrids (PHEV), as well as the sporty M350 xDrive version with a 3.0-liter inline-six.
The main plant in Munich has been completely repurposed for the assembly of all-electric models. It will produce the fundamentally new i3 electric car (factory code NA0) on the Neue Klasse architecture, which does not share a chassis with the classic sedan despite visual similarities. The eighth-generation gasoline BMW 3 Series itself received the code G50. It is based on a heavily modernized platform of its predecessor, featuring a new body and an advanced hardware and software architecture.
