The fifth generation made its world debut on 30 June 2026. The G65 keeps the rear-drive CLAR platform but adopts Neue Klasse design and electronics: the Panoramic iDrive system with a full-width windscreen projection, a 17.9-inch central display, a 3D head-up display and the Heart of Joy dynamics controller. Production runs at Plant Spartanburg in the USA from autumn 2026, with deliveries starting in 2027.

For the first time a single BMW model is offered with five different drivetrains. These are the B58 petrol and B57 diesel straight-sixes with a 48V starter-generator, the X5 50e xDrive (482 hp) and X5 M60e xDrive (604 hp) plug-in hybrids, the fully electric BMW iX5 60 xDrive (twin motors, 425 kW, a 141 kWh battery, 800V architecture and charging at up to 460 kW), and the hydrogen BMW iX5 Hydrogen scheduled for series production in 2028. The electric iX5 is not a separate line but a variant of the X5 — same G65 body, same model range. China additionally gets the long-wheelbase X5 and iX5 Long Wheelbase with a 3,165 mm wheelbase, 130 mm longer than standard.
