Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets New Production EV Lap Record
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has once again proven its dominance by establishing a new lap record at Road Atlanta. Last month, this electric sedan completed a lap around the 2.54-mile track in an impressive 1:27.15, beating the former record by 6.73 seconds set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020. This achievement marks a significant milestone for production electric vehicles.
The record-setting vehicle was a 2025 Purple Sky Taycan outfitted with the Weissach Package, which enhances performance by replacing the rear seats with a carbon fiber shelf and adding a fixed rear wing. These modifications allow the Taycan Turbo GT to generate up to 485 pounds of downforce.
Unmatched Performance
Introduced over a year ago, the Taycan Turbo GT stands as Porsche’s most powerful model to date. The electric vehicle delivers up to 1,092 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds. Even in its standard configuration, it boasts 777 hp and 998 pound-feet of torque, showcasing exceptional power and performance.
Record-Breaking Details
During its record run at Road Atlanta, Porsche utilized Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS NF0 summer performance tires inflated to 37 psi. Additionally, the Track Endurance Mode was engaged to optimize the battery’s starting temperature before the two lap attempts. For comparison, the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020 was a lap time of 1:33.88.
Continued Success
This latest achievement follows the Taycan Turbo GT’s 1:42.1 lap at Brazil's Interlagos circuit in March and a record-setting run at the Nürburgring in early 2024, further cementing its status as a leader in high-performance electric vehicles.
