The All-New Hyundai Ioniq 9: A Revolutionary Three-Row Electric SUV
Unveiling the Ioniq 9
Hyundai has joined the wave of three-row electric SUVs with the introduction of their new Ioniq 9. Built on the same E-GMP electric platform as the Kia EV9, this innovative model boasts ample space, extravagant amenities, and a remarkable range that exceeds 300 miles, regardless of the trim.
Power and Performance
The Ioniq 9 is equipped with a 110.3-kilowatt-hour (net) battery pack. The base Long Range model features a single electric motor powering the rear wheels, while Hyundai also offers a dual-motor Long Range variant and a dual-motor Performance model.
The Long Range single-motor model delivers 215 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The dual-motor Long Range version offers 310 hp and 445 lb-ft, while the Performance model takes it up a notch with an impressive 430 hp and 515 lb-ft. The quickest Ioniq 9 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 124 mph.
Impressive Range and Charging
While specific range figures for the dual-motor models are not yet available, Hyundai ensures that every version of the Ioniq 9 will deliver over 300 miles of range. The base single-motor model is estimated to offer 335 miles per charge. Additionally, the Ioniq 9 can be conveniently charged in just 24 minutes from 10 to 80% using a 350-kilowatt-capable DC fast charger. Notably, this SUV also boasts a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
A Luxurious and Sustainable Interior
With ample room for up to six or seven passengers, depending on the configuration, the Ioniq 9 offers a host of luxurious features. Passengers in the second row can enjoy Hyundai's Relaxation Seats, complete with a Dynamic Touch Massage function. The first and second rows can also be laid completely flat, and the second row even swivels to allow face-to-face interaction with passengers in the third row when the vehicle is stationary.
Eco-friendly materials cover the seats and interior panels, ranging from sustainably sourced leather to recycled polyethylene terephthalate fabric and even wool. The driver and front passenger have access to dual 12.0-inch screens, including a central touchscreen and a secondary digital instrument cluster. Additionally, an eight-speaker audio system comes standard, with the option to upgrade to a Bose 14-speaker system.
Exceptional Space and Storage
Measuring a total length of 199.2 inches and featuring a 123.2-inch wheelbase, the Ioniq 9 offers generous interior space. With the second and third rows combined, passengers enjoy 74.8 inches of headroom and 80.7 inches of legroom. Thanks to the battery configuration, the Ioniq 9 boasts a completely flat floor extending all the way to the third row.
The rear cargo hold offers 21.8 cubic feet of space, which can be expanded to 46.7 cubic feet with the third row folded flat. Additionally, the Ioniq 9 includes a frunk (front trunk) capable of carrying 3.1 cubic feet of cargo in rear-wheel drive models or 1.8 cubic feet in all-wheel-drive models.
Futuristic Design and Eco-Friendly Innovations
The Ioniq 9 features an 'aerosthetic' exterior design that combines futuristic elements like eight-bit headlights and taillights with exceptional aerodynamic efficiency. With optional digital side mirrors, the SUV achieves an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.259 Cd, surpassing the Tesla Model X's coefficient of 0.24 Cd.
Furthermore, the Ioniq 9 incorporates a new paint compound made from recycled tire waste, aligning with its eco-friendly ethos. Buyers can choose from 16 different colors, including exclusive shades like Celadon Gray Matte, Celadon Gray Metallic, Ionosphere Green Pearl, Sunset Brown Pearl, and Cosmic Blue Pearl.
Pricing and Availability
Although pricing details are yet to be announced, it is estimated that the Hyundai Ioniq 9 will start in the mid-$50,000 range and reach up to approximately $80,000. This impressive three-row electric SUV is set to go on sale early next year.
