Ford Mustang GTD Could Reclaim Nürburgring Lap Record From Corvette
A recent video circulating on YouTube claims that the Ford Mustang GTD has set a new benchmark lap time at the Nürburgring, potentially surpassing its closest competitor, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X.
According to the footage, the Mustang GTD completed the Nordschleife in an impressive 6 minutes and 41.74 seconds, trimming roughly 10 seconds off its previous best. This time would place it ahead of the Corvette ZR1X, which holds a lap time of 6 minutes and 49.275 seconds.
Ford initially responded to losing the Nürburgring title to the Corvette by signaling a challenge, and it appears the automaker may have answered with this recent run. The video, uploaded by the Statesidesupercars channel, indicates that the Mustang GTD used in this attempt might be an upgraded iteration, possibly a GTD Evo, equipped with improved aerodynamic features.
The Mustang GTD represents Ford’s pinnacle Mustang model, powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine delivering 814 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Priced above $300,000, this car is essentially a street-legal version of Ford's GT3 race car, boasting advanced technology such as a semi-active rear inboard pushrod suspension, a carbon-fiber driveshaft, an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle, and nearly perfect 50-50 weight distribution.
