2027 BMW 3 Series G50 debuts with Neue Klasse tech and a 437-hp M350 xDrive
BMW has revealed the eighth-generation 3 Series sedan, designated internally as the G50. Designed as the gasoline-powered counterpart to the all-electric 2027 BMW i3, the new 3 Series adopts Neue Klasse styling and technologies while retaining internal combustion power for drivers not yet ready to switch to battery-electric vehicles.
Visually, the gas-powered 3 Series closely mirrors the i3, sharing a front fascia that integrates the signature kidney grille elements and headlights into a single mask-like horizontal unit. Minor dimensional differences include the gasoline sedan being 0.2 inches longer, 0.6 inches narrower, and an inch lower than the i3, alongside a 1.5-inch shorter wheelbase. Overall, the G50 is slightly larger than the outgoing G20 generation. The exterior profile features flush door handles, slim taillights, and wheel options ranging from 19 to 20 inches with rear tire widths up to 275 sections. M Performance models such as the M350 xDrive gain quad exhaust tips, a rear spoiler, and optional yellow motorsport-inspired lights.
The cabin directly mirrors the Neue Klasse interior of the i3, featuring a full-width pillar-to-pillar slim display, a large central touchscreen, and the Android Open Source-based BMW Operating System X with over-the-air update capability and an AI voice assistant. Standard models feature a vertical spoke steering wheel, while M Performance variants retain a traditional steering wheel design.
At launch, the engine lineup consists of two mild-hybrid options equipped with 48-volt electrification and crankshaft-mounted starter generators adding up to 17 hp. The base 330 model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, available in rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, reaching 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. The performance-focused M350 xDrive features a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six producing 437 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in an estimated 3.9 seconds. The M350 also receives an Adaptive M Suspension, M Sport differential, and a forthcoming "Drift Moment" mode delivering 100 percent of torque to the rear wheels.
Production will take place at BMW's Munich plant in Germany, with sales starting in the first quarter of 2027 at a starting price of $51,250 for the 330 and $67,250 for the M350 xDrive.
