2027 BMW 3 Series Debuts with Neue Klasse Styling and 437-HP M350 xDrive

BMW has officially unveiled the 2027 3 Series, introducing a major redesign inspired by the brand's Neue Klasse design philosophy. Following the earlier debut of the all-electric i3, the combustion-powered sedan adopts similar proportions and body lines while retaining distinct features such as a functional front grille and optional yellow M lighting elements within the headlamps.

In line with BMW's updated naming strategy, the traditional 'i' suffix has been removed from gasoline-powered variants to prevent overlap with the electric lineup. The initial offering includes three distinct configurations: the rear-wheel-drive 330, the all-wheel-drive 330 xDrive, and the high-performance M350 xDrive.

Entry-level 330 models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Routed through an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, this setup propels the sedan from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. Both the standard model and its performance counterpart share an electronically governed top speed of 155 mph.

The flagship M350 xDrive stands as the most powerful M Performance 3 Series built to date. It houses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine producing 437 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque, accelerating from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Exterior distinctions for the M Performance variant include quad exhaust tips, model-specific front and rear bumpers, aggressive side skirts, a discreet rear spoiler, gloss-black trim, and blue M Sport brake calipers. Wheels are sized at 19 inches standard, with 20-inch alloys available as an option.

The redesigned cabin centers around BMW's Panoramic iDrive architecture, which projects critical driving data across the base of the windshield. A central 17.9-inch trapezoidal touchscreen manages infotainment functions with an Amazon Alexa-integrated assistant and a TiVo streaming video application for parked use. The interior also features a central-spoke steering wheel with haptic controls, alongside dedicated M Mode and Boost toggles on the M350 xDrive.

For driving enthusiasts, BMW has engineered a factory system dubbed Drift Moment for the M350 xDrive, which disengages drive to the front axle to facilitate controlled oversteer. This function will be delivered via an over-the-air update in 2027. Deliveries of the 2027 3 Series are scheduled to commence in early 2027, with base pricing starting at $49,900 for the 330, $51,900 for the 330 xDrive, and $65,900 for the M350 xDrive. The electric i3 50 starts at $61,500.
