Upgraded 2026 Toyota GR Corolla Launches, GRMN Edition Still Awaited
The latest 2026 Toyota GR Corolla has been unveiled, closely mirroring its predecessor's design both inside and out. Despite the familiar aesthetics, Toyota has implemented several improvements to elevate the performance of this dynamic hatchback.
One notable enhancement includes the application of an additional 45.6 feet of structural adhesive at the front and rear, which boosts the vehicle's body rigidity. Additionally, upgrades to rear traction and suspension responsiveness contribute to more precise handling, particularly during cornering.
Enhanced Engine Performance
For the 2026 model year, Toyota has introduced an extra air intake duct designed to lower engine temperatures. This modification allows the turbocharged three-cylinder engine to operate more efficiently over extended periods. The 1.6-liter engine continues to produce 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, with power delivered to all four wheels via either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Simplified Trim Levels
Moving forward, the GR Corolla lineup has been streamlined to two trims: the standard GR Corolla and the GR Corolla Premium Plus. The Premium Plus trim now features an upgraded nine-speaker JBL audio system with a trunk-mounted subwoofer. Additionally, it introduces a new feature that simulates engine sounds through the speakers.
Models equipped with the JBL system include Active Sound Control (ASC), which emits artificial sounds to provide the driver with additional audio cues about the vehicle's performance. It is currently unclear if ASC can be disabled, but many drivers may prefer the authentic sound of the G16E-GTS engine, which is also found in the GR Yaris and Lexus LBX.
Pricing and the Missing GRMN Edition
The base GR Corolla starts at $41,115 with a manual transmission, while the Premium Plus trim with an automatic transmission is priced at $49,160. Both prices include a $1,195 handling fee.
Interestingly, Toyota has not yet announced the GRMN variant, despite leaked images from a recent dealership event showcasing the special edition. These images depicted the top-tier GR Corolla featuring a vented carbon hood, bronze wheels, and a carbon rear spoiler. Inside, the GRMN is said to offer two contoured seats, omitting the rear bench to reduce weight, similar to the Morizo special edition. A plaque near the manual shifter suggests that the GRMN will be limited to 500 units.
While the pricing for the GRMN remains undisclosed, it is expected to be significantly higher than the top-tier Premium Plus trim, potentially reaching around $60,000 when accounting for possible dealer markups. There is speculation that the GRMN Corolla may make its official debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
