Toyota GR86 Transformed Into Rally-Ready Beast Now Available for Purchase

Key Highlights

  • Kuhl Racing elevates the GR86 with rally-inspired aesthetics and genuine off-road capabilities.
  • An optional turbo upgrade boosts power by 50 hp beyond the standard engine output.
  • Complete conversion kits and standalone parts allow for tailored modifications.
  • The fully equipped vehicle is priced at ¥4,150,000 ($26,600).

Traditionally, sports cars stick to paved roads, not dirt trails. However, manufacturers like Lamborghini and Porsche have challenged this norm with their elevated and reinforced models — the Huracan Sterrato and 911 Dakar, respectively. Enthusiasts might also recall the Aixam Mega Track's unique approach.

Joining this trend, a notable Japanese tuner has reimagined the Toyota GR86 as a rugged machine fit for rally stages. The result? A thrilling mix of sportiness and off-road readiness.

Kuhl Racing’s GR86 Outroad

Kuhl Racing’s GR86 Outroad elevates Toyota’s nimble rear-wheel-drive coupe by roughly 3 inches through a bespoke suspension system. For added versatility, an optional hydraulic lift can increase ground clearance by an extra 1.6 inches, adjustable on the fly for various terrains.

The Outroad’s aggressive styling features widened fender flares to accommodate larger tires, redesigned bumpers that enhance approach and departure angles, protective skid plates, rugged cladding, and auxiliary lighting to emphasize its rally-inspired character. Roof rails complete the adventure-ready package.

Powertrain-wise, the vehicle retains the stock 2.4-liter flat-four engine, but buyers can opt for a turbocharger kit that raises output by 50 horsepower. Additional enhancements include upgraded cooling and ECU remapping to maximize performance. Transmission choices remain split between manual and automatic.

More Than Just a Showpiece

What sets the GR86 Outroad apart is that it’s not simply a concept. Kuhl Racing offers a full conversion package for existing GR86 owners, as well as individual components for those who wish to customize their build. This modular approach lets enthusiasts combine suspension, aerodynamic parts, wheels, brakes, and performance upgrades according to their preferences.

The complete Outroad package is available for ¥4,150,000 (~$26,600), with the body kit priced at ¥1,771,000 ($11,800) and wheels costing an additional ¥440,000 ($2,800). The turbo upgrade is offered separately for ¥1,250,000 ($8,300).

Kuhl Racing will officially reveal the GR86 Outroad at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, with sales commencing in Japan in 2026.
