Modern Hot Rod Revival: The Stunning SP40 Inspired by the 1934 Ford Model 40

The SP40 Restomod captivates enthusiasts with its striking design, drawing heavily from the iconic 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster. Crafted by the Argentinian boutique automaker Iconic Auto Sports, this limited-production vehicle perfectly merges vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge engineering.

Powering the SP40 is a robust third-generation Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, delivering in excess of 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain includes stainless steel long-tube headers, mufflers, and exhaust pipes, paired seamlessly with a five-speed Tremec TKO 500/600 manual transmission. Complementing this setup is a fully independent suspension system front and rear, ensuring agile handling and ride comfort.

Stopping force comes courtesy of Mustang GT350R brakes, featuring six-piston Brembo calipers at the front and four-piston units at the rear. These clamp onto sizable cross-drilled discs measuring 15.5 inches up front and 14.9 inches at the back. The car rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in 235/45/R20 tires at the front and 275/35/R20 at the rear, enhancing grip and stance.

Weighing just 2,623 pounds thanks to its carbon-fiber bodywork, the SP40 showcases a minimalist yet luxurious interior. Exposed elements include aluminum, leather, and wood, combined with Sparco safety harnesses and modern conveniences such as wireless phone charging.

Arturo Arrebillaga, co-founder of Iconic Auto Sports, explained to Hagerty, "Our intention was not to simply recreate history but to bring it back to life. Every detail, from the body lines to the mechanical components, embodies our dedication to crafting the ultimate driving experience."

Every part of the SP40 is conceived and built in-house by Iconic Auto Sports, resulting in a car that perfectly balances 1930s styling with contemporary hot rod flair. The wide wheels and distinctive headlights hint at the modern performance hidden beneath its retro look.

Though the company is based in Argentina, it maintains a presence in the United States, where interested buyers can place orders. While pricing information remains undisclosed, the bespoke nature of the SP40 suggests a premium cost.
