Genesis Introduces Elegant G90-Derived Coupe and Convertible Models

Genesis continues to establish itself as a pioneer in luxurious concept vehicles, often drawing comparisons to iconic brands like Cadillac. Remember the breathtaking 2021 X and the 2022 X Convertible concepts? The brand has now expanded its portfolio with two more mesmerizing designs.

These new models, echoing their predecessors, primarily serve as styling showcases—a glimpse into Hyundai’s luxury division's imaginative possibilities. Despite their polished appearance suggesting readiness for production, it's prudent to temper expectations.

The X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible make their debut alongside Hyundai’s innovative Nexo hydrogen crossover and the revamped Ioniq 6. Rooted in the G90, Genesis’ flagship sedan, these one-off concepts hint at potential future directions. Notably, while the convertible models sport a lowered roof in visuals, they conceal a soft top mechanism.

Design and Aesthetics

These stunning vehicles stand shoulder to shoulder with elite models like the Bentley Continental GT/GTC and Lexus LC/LC Convertible. Genesis has notably redesigned the bodywork, opting for a sleeker two-door configuration. Inside, both models feature enhanced interiors: the X Gran Coupe boasts green leather accents reminiscent of Mediterranean olives, whereas the X Gran Convertible offers a serene blue cabin inspired by Livorno’s Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

Genesis' Brand Evolution

Having separated from Hyundai a decade ago, Genesis has achieved sales exceeding 1.3 million units, predominantly focusing on SUVs and sedans. In select regions, such as Europe, the G70 Shooting Brake also made its mark. To truly rival the likes of Mercedes and BMW, Genesis must elevate its brand stature with standout halo models. While some skeptics may argue that a coupe or convertible won’t dramatically shift market dynamics, a striking flagship can attract more foot traffic to dealerships, potentially increasing interest in other models like the GV70.

With Hyundai’s robust financial backing, Genesis is well-positioned to embark on ambitious projects without immediate return pressures. Looking ahead, there’s hope that Genesis will challenge the BMW 8 Series and other premier grand tourers. Until such models materialize, enthusiasts can continue to admire Genesis’ luxurious concept vehicles.
