Genesis Unveils the GV80 Desert Edition for Off-Road Enthusiasts

Genesis Unveils the GV80 Desert Edition

Genesis, known for its luxury vehicles, surprises enthusiasts with the release of the lifted GV80 Desert Edition. This one-off creation was piloted by racing legend Jacky Ickx at the recent Dakar rally.

Impressive Off-Road Features

The GV80 Desert Edition boasts 20-inch beadlock wheels and rugged all-terrain tires, providing excellent performance in challenging terrains. It has also been widened by 1.6 inches to accommodate the larger tires. The addition of a custom roof rack allows for convenient storage of fuel canisters and a tent. The Midnight Blue exterior with white striping pays homage to Ickx's racing helmet.

Enhanced Suspension and Lighting

Genesis claims that the GV80 Desert Edition features comprehensive suspension upgrades, although details are scarce. The powertrain remains unchanged, with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine generating 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle also incorporates various lighting enhancements, including a new LED light bar on the roof, additional lighting in the A-pillar, and updated fixtures in the bumper. Additionally, the GV80 is equipped with a night-vision camera for improved visibility during night-time driving.

A Tribute to Jacky Ickx

This custom creation by Genesis celebrates 40 years since Jacky Ickx's victory at the 1983 Dakar rally. It also marks Ickx's 80th birthday, commemorated with a custom E80 door sticker. Ickx successfully completed the entire 3,728-mile route from Bisha to Shubaytah behind the wheel of the GV80.

A Collaboration of Creativity

The GV80 Desert Edition was a joint effort between Genesis Middle East and W Motors, the renowned company responsible for high-performance supercars. Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke oversaw the project, ensuring a unique and captivating design.

An Exclusive Gem

While the GV80 Desert Edition is an impressive feat, it is highly unlikely to become a commercial offering from Genesis. Nevertheless, this one-off creation showcases the brand's ingenuity and commitment to pushing boundaries.
