BMW Set to Transform Its Entire Fleet with Neue Klasse Design

BMW is embarking on a new design journey beginning with the launch of the iX3 electric SUV later this year. This model marks the first step in the brand’s plan to refresh its entire lineup with the Neue Klasse aesthetic. Adrian van Hooydonk, the Group Design Director, announced that every BMW vehicle will soon feature this distinctive new look.

In a conversation with Autocar, van Hooydonk revealed that the Neue Klasse design will be integrated into all BMW models. Although the Neue Klasse was introduced in 2023, the 5 Series sedan will be the first to receive the updated styling, maintaining its current CLAR platform with a refreshed appearance. Subsequent models to undergo the redesign include the X5, 2 Series, X2, 7 Series, and X7.

Comprehensive Design Integration

"Our goal is to ensure that the design language we are developing now—and initiating with the first Neue Klasse model at the IAA in Munich—will be extended across the entire product range, leaving no vehicle unchanged," stated van Hooydonk.

Timeline and Implementation

Bernd Körber, BMW’s Head of Product, confirmed that the rollout of the new design will be swift, aiming to complete the transformation within three and a half years.

Despite the uniform design direction, van Hooydonk assured that each BMW model will retain its unique personality. While sharing a common family resemblance, individual characteristics will distinguish each vehicle.

Expanding Beyond Electric Vehicles

Initially intended exclusively for electric models, BMW extended the Neue Klasse design to include gasoline-powered vehicles as well. Following the preview of the Neue Klasse concept in 2023 and the Neue Klasse X crossover, the brand is expected to move away from its iconic kidney grille towards a more streamlined front design with refined elements.
