BMW Extends Production of M4 Model Through 2029
BMW's iconic 4 Series, including both coupe and convertible versions as well as the high-performance M4 models, will remain in production longer than previously expected. Contrary to trends showing diminished interest in two-door vehicles, the automaker has no immediate intentions to phase out the current lineup.
Production Timeline and Models
According to a recent leak shared by user ynguldyn on the Bimmer Post community, the G22 and G23 variants of the 4 Series, alongside the G82 and G83 M4 models, are slated to be produced throughout the decade, with the Gran Coupe variant continuing until June 2028.
Sales Performance in the U.S.
The 4 Series has been BMW's top-selling passenger vehicle in the United States, surpassing the 3 Series by 10,000 units in the first nine months of the year. While there has been a decline in sales compared to the previous year, the strong performance underscores the model's enduring popularity.
Upcoming Updates and Platform Integration
BMW has recently refreshed the 4 Series and may introduce another update before the production concludes four years from now. This update is expected to integrate BMW's Neue Klasse platform across its vehicle range in the coming months, though the 4 Series itself will not see a drastic redesign.
Strategic Position Amidst EV Uncertainty
Amidst the ambiguous future of electric vehicles, maintaining the gasoline-powered 4 Series and the sporty M4 offers BMW flexibility. Built on the longstanding CLAR architecture, BMW can offer diverse powertrain options without restricting its offerings.
Engine Specifications and Future Prospects
The M4 will continue to feature its renowned straight-six engine, delivering 473 horsepower, ensuring it remains a favorite among enthusiasts until at least 2029. BMW has affirmed that its premier engines will remain a staple in their lineup for the foreseeable future.
