The BMW M4 was introduced as an independent model line when the brand separated two-door performance models from the traditional four-door platform. The first generation, designated F82 for the coupe and F83 for the convertible, was produced from 2014 to 2020. It featured a lightweight chassis architecture, motorsport-derived suspension tuning, and turbocharged gasoline engines paired with manual or dual-clutch transmissions. Mid-cycle updates refreshed lighting elements and interior infotainment.

The second generation, carrying the G82 and G83 internal codes, entered production in 2021 and continues to the present day. Retaining the coupe and convertible formats, it introduced a new structural platform, a bold front design language, and updated powertrains with advanced electronic driving controls.

Through both generations, the M4 has served as the core benchmark for high-performance compact executive two-door vehicles, consistently focusing on sharp dynamics, rigid chassis engineering, and refined sports car ergonomics.
